Our History
Our Story
According to the records contained at Samford University, Seddon Baptist Church was first organized in 1873. In 1995, the seven attending members of Seddon chose to call Dale Foote as their Senior Pastor (bi-vocationally). With just a word from God and the blessing of their pastor, Dale Foote took over as pastoral leadership in April, 1995. Just ten months after accepting the pastorate position, the Seddon church building burnt to the ground on February 6, 1996. With several individuals stating that the church was a lost cause, Pastor Foote and the members attending at the time chose in faith to press on for the kingdom of God rather than to quit. During the rebuilding of the sanctuary, the church held their services in the fellowship hall; while at the same time growing from seven in membership to averaging thirty in weekly attendance. In early
December of 1997, the new sanctuary was completed. Upon moving into their new building in 1997, to calling Pastor Foote into full-time vocational ministry in 2003; the church had grown from thirty in average attendance to over one-hundred and twenty in weekly attendance. From 2003 to 2011 the church had reached maximum seating capacity in weekly attendance deciding to launch for the first time in church history two worship services. From 2011 to the present, the church has grown to it largest membership in church history averaging three+ hundred in weekly attendance.
Our Future
The story of Seddon is continuing. From the launch of two services in 2011, the church had once again reached a place in church growth where provision must be made in order to continue such growth. So in November of 2012, Seddon bought eleven and a half acres with the plans to build a brand new campus fully equipped with educational classrooms, a larger sanctuary, a family life center, a softball field, a soccer field, an outdoor basketball court, an outdoor (kids) playground, and much more. Seddon is not short on vision, and we are believing God to use this church to impact this community in major ways for the gospel of Christ. Since the launch of this vision to build for the kingdom of God and the purchase of the property in 2012, Seddon found itself ready to begin renovation of the old 84 lumber complex existing on the purchased land. In January 2014, Seddon began the renovation by putting into motion phase one of a three-phase project. Phase one of this vision consisted of building out the first level of the education and administration facility, the family life center (which is acting as the current worship center), and the Seddon Kids worship center. As of June 1, 2014, Seddon began hosting its weekly worship experience on the new campus and looks forward to seeing the glory of God continue to manifest through this church. The best is yet to come.
Building our Vision
In the book of Mark chapter 12 verses 30 - 31, “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is no other commandment greater than these.”
The vision statement of SeddonBC is Love God, Love People, and Make Disciples. We love God and we love people because that is the great commandment. We make disciples because that is the great commission to “go and make disciples.” I am thankful for a church with a vision and one that understands its responsibility.
The “Building our Vision” campaign we are about to embark on is acting out our vision statement. This project is about making additional room to reach more people and will give us a greater opportunity to invest in more lives. Phase II of this project will include the build-out and completion of the upstairs in our Education Building. It will provide additional classrooms and a much-needed Student Ministry
Worship Center. There will also be some upgrades made to our sound equipment and an expansion of our parking lot near the worship center.

We are excited to say that this work will begin very soon, and the projected completion date will be near the end of summer. Please be continual in your prayer, your investments, and in your service and attendance. There is no greater time than now to do what God has called us to do!
