SEDDONBC: WHO WE ARE
According to the records contained at Samford University, Seddon Baptist Church was first
organized in 1873. In 1995, the seven attending members of SeddonBC chose to call
Dale Foote as their Senior Pastor (bi-vocationally). With just a word from God and the
blessing of their pastor, Dale Foote and his wife Lori Foote took over as pastoral leadership
in April, 1995. Just ten months after accepting the pastorate position, the SeddonBC church
building burnt to the ground on February 6, 1996. With several individuals stating that the
church was a lost cause, Pastor Foote and the members attending at the time chose in faith
to press on for the kingdom of God rather than to quit. During the rebuilding of the
sanctuary, the church held their services in the fellowship hall; while at the same time
growing from seven in membership to averaging thirty in weekly attendance. In early
December of 1997, the new sanctuary was completed. Upon moving into their new building
in 1997, to calling Pastor Foote into full-time vocational ministry in 2003; the church had grown from thirty in average attendance to over one-hundred and twenty in weekly attendance. From 2003 to 2011 the church had reached maximum seating capacity in weekly attendance deciding to launch for the first time in church history two worship services. From 2011 to the present, the church has grown to it largest membership in church history averaging three+ hundred in weekly attendance.
The story of SeddonBC is continuing. From the launch of two services in 2011, the church had once again reached a place in church growth where provision must be made in order to continue such growth. So in November of 2012, SeddonBC bought eleven and a half acres with the plans to build a brand new campus fully equipped with educational classrooms, a larger sanctuary, a family life center, a softball field, a soccer field, an outdoor basketball court, an outdoor (kids) playground, and much more. SeddonBC is not short on vision, and we are believing God to use this church to impact this community in major ways for the gospel of Christ. Since the launch of this vision to build for the kingdom of God and the purchase of the property in 2012, SeddonBC found itself ready to begin renovation of the old 84 lumber complex existing on the purchased land. In January 2014, SeddonBC began the renovation by putting into motion phase one of a three-phase project. Phase one of this vision consisted of building out the first level of the education and administration facility, the family life center (which is acting as the current worship center), and the Seddon Kids worship center. As of June 1, 2014, SeddonBC began hosting its weekly worship experience on the new campus and looks forward to seeing the glory of God continue to manifest through this church. The best is yet to come.
Vision, Mission, and Strategy:
Our vision, mission, and strategy are based on truths found in the word of God for His Church. These three work together, like a three-fold cord, in propelling us forward. We believe God’s vision, mission, and strategy for His church also mirror His vision, mission, and strategy for our personal lives as well. Therefore, everything we do is with the intent of leading people to become fully devoted to following after Jesus Christ.
Seddon Baptist Church exists for the glory of God and the good of others by loving God, loving people, and making disciples.
Our Vision is for individuals to take ownership of their faith and to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ to the point where they are willing and ready to reinvest their faith into the life of another person. The Great Commission: Matthew 28:19-20
In the earliest church, people felt compelled to take the Gospel with them wherever they went or lived; our desire is that SeddonBC produces believers who fully engage their communities with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
At SeddonBC, our mission is simple: "To lead people in becoming fully devoted followers of Christ by teaching them to love God, love people, and make disciples". Luke 9:23
Our strategy is simply “how” we accomplish our vision and mission. Biblically, we see five main church life streams that position us to becoming fully devoted to Christ which are: Weekend and Midweek Worship Services, Personal Devotion, Serving Teams, Community Groups, and Outreach.
Weekend and Midweek Services
Our worship services are designed to encourage and strengthen you in your relationship with Jesus. Corporate worship is at its maximum potential when individuals who have been intentional in personal worship during the course of the week come together to bring God glory. We desire to partner with you in making our worship experience the best experience.
Personal Devotion is simply the daily practice of making room in your life to seek God through prayer and reading the Scripture. We believe this is important in taking your personal spiritual growth experience beyond the weekend and into your everyday life.
Serving is the very heart and nature of Jesus. The Bible tells us that He came “not to be served, but to serve.” (Matthew 20:28) While on earth, Jesus met people’s physical and tangible needs. As servants of Christ, it is our belief that we should do the same. Simply put, we are able to identify more with the character of Christ when we serve others.
One of the best ways to get connected with other people in the SeddonBC family is by participating in a Community Group. Community Groups are designed to help you build healthy relationships with others in a safe environment, while growing together spiritually. Join a community group today during our ten o'clock weekend worship experience.
We believe the local church is the vehicle Jesus Christ chose and empowered to reach a lost and hurting world. Through our local outreach, we mobilize teams and overcome hurdles that get in the way of people becoming fully devoted to Christ. Our goal is to be the hands and feet of Jesus, driven by His heart to serve others, while giving people the opportunity to find true hope and fulfillment. Together, we are reaching our communities and changing our world for Jesus.
